Many of Avon Wildlife Trust's aims coincide with those of Future Footprints - supporting organic locally grown food, encouraging sustainable tourism, raising awareness of conservation issues and understanding biodiversity, so we are happy to support the project and help keep the South West special.

Tourist Information Centres

Future Footprints is working with TICs to encourage the region's visitors to take simple steps to make their trip to the South West more enjoyable, and also more sustainable.

The very reason that people love our region, our environment and heritage, must be protected for present and future generations. Please help us encourage visitors to take simple steps to help keep the South West special:

* 'Try local, buy local'
* 'Explore what's on your doorstep'
* 'Look for tourism that cares' (GTBS, Bellamy etc)

Best practice
Many TICs already promote local produce and provide information on trips by train, bus, ferry, foot or bike. Have a look at the case studies for good examples and ideas for your TIC.

How you can help

Lynne O'Connell, Tourism Officer for Gloucester TIC explains why they support Future Footprints

“We have found Future Footprints really useful in helping us focus on our customer service in terms of those customers without cars. We have put together a list of all attractions and how to get to them by public transport. We have a Future Footprints wall which enables us to promote some of those attractions. It is a great way of encouraging local people to leave their cars at home. Most TICs will have this sort of information to hand, but under the Future Footprints banner we have focused our customers’ attention on it. Future Footprints provides free resources to help us do this and we are very happy to be involved in the campaign.

We also focus on the buy local, try local aspect of the campaign and now have an area dedicated to information on local food as well as having local produce to sell. We want to add to the customer's overall experience of the region, and promoting local food is an easy and obvious way of doing that. If you do not have the space to sell local food, it is very easy to provide the information.”
